Frequently asked questions

Software as a service (or SaaS) is a way of delivering applications over the Internet--as a service. Instead of installing and maintaining software, you simply access it via the Internet, freeing yourself from complex software and hardware management. SaaS is gradually replacing the traditional softwares.

Let us try to understand it from an example. Suppose, a bank, needs a CRM application. The Bank has two options: 1. Bank can either get the CRM application built by outsourcing companies or buy off-the-shelf CRM. Both options require the bank to make upfront investment apart from incurring regular expenses of maintaining and upgrading the application. 2. Bank can buy the CRM application from a SaaS company, where the CRM application is hosted by SaaS Company, which also takes care of its maintenance, security, and upgrades. The bank needs to pay a monthly subscription fee based on the number of active users of the CRM application. The second example which offers far more flexibility and cost-cutting, is an example of SaaS.
